Nicoleen Johnson, PhD
Dr. Nicoleen Johnson hails from Bethel Town, Westmoreland and is a graduate of Herbert Morrison Technical High School and The University of Technology. She has lived, studied and worked in Shanghai, China since 1997 and established her career as a China Market Expert . With a background in Marketing and International Relations, she is currently the Owner/General Manager of Global Connections Gateway, a Shanghai based Trade and Travel Consulting firm, assisting companies and governments from around the world to do business in China.
Dr. Johnson is a pioneer and connector at heart and this is reflected in her many accomplishments. She overcame many obstacles, including learning Mandarin, and is the first Jamaican to graduate with both a Masters and a PhD. from a prestigious Chinese University.
In the past 23 years, Dr Johnson has been pivotal in building relationships, both intra-China and equally with the international community. She is the founding President and current board member of both the first Caribbean Association China (CAC) established in 2007 as well as the first Jamaican Association of China (JAC) established in 2019. Coordinating numerous events for the Expat community in Shanghai and for Jamaican Government Agencies is just one area that distinguishes Nicoleen from other Jamaicans in the region. She was instrumental in the establishment of both the first Jamaican Direct Investment in Shanghai in 2005 and the first Jamaican Restaurant in Shanghai in 2007. Currently she is an active leader in Shanghai Community Fellowship and also leads a Women’s Group responsible for encouraging and empowering women in the community.
Dr. Johnson is an avid traveler. Having visited every country in South East Asia and recently completing a milestone of her 60th country visit in the world. She has established strong connections in many regions worldwide.
Dr. Johnson will no doubt use this wealth of experience to carry out her mandate as the GJDC representative for her region.

Nailah currently chairs the Deciding Committee of the Jamaican-Canadian Community Emergency Response Fund (COVID-19), designed to temporarily relieve the basic needs of vulnerable Jamaican-Canadians during this time.
